DATTCO is currently hiring a full-time Safety Assistant for our Safety Department in New Britain, CT. This position plays a pivotal role in our safety operations. This position involves daily engagement with our telematics software, monitoring dash cam videos to assess driver safety, administering safety training, and ensuring compliance. Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversight of our telematics platform including triggered event monitoring, video review, data analysis, driver scoring and pre-coaching/retraining coordination.
- Develop targeted efforts to improve driver behavior, reduce accidents and assess driver skills assessment.
- Comprehensive analysis, data collection, and correlation of information obtained by a multifaceted vehicle telematics system.
- Record and monitor driver performance algorithms, triggered events notifications, video retrieval, and analysis of hours-of-service (electronic logging device) monitoring.
- Verification of accuracy and compliance with electronic driver vehicle inspection reports.
- Provide direct driver messaging and distribution of electronic information bulletins.
- Maintenance of performance tracking spreadsheets.
- Establish and maintain baseline assessments of driver performance issues.
- Provide support to training and administrative staff.
- Assist with new employee onboarding.
- Collaborate on aspects of new driver training and appropriate post-accident or event retraining.
- Dailey monitoring and summaries of all captured events.
- Monitor system algorithms to identify and respond to prevailing anomalies and identifying repeated patterns of behavior, and/or policy violations.
- Conduct preliminary investigations to identify causative factors involving driver incidents and accidents.
- Review fleet dash cam footage to identify and escalate issues related to safe driving practices.
- Provide coaching and communication to drivers, emphasizing DOT (Department of Transportation) Driver Qualification (DQ) file maintenance.
- Conduct coaching sessions for driving safety performance improvement through various channels, including text, web, phone, and in-person communication.
- Collect, maintain, and analyze data related to driving and training programs.
- Prepare and present periodic reports on program effectiveness, process and quality to management.
- Track and report metrics on driver safety and training certifications.
- Communicate non-compliance issues through our driver safety system.
- Communicate follow-up actions with employees regarding corrective measures related to safety events. Collaborate with company leaders to address significant safety events.
- Assist the trainers in administering safety training.
- Coordinate training events as needed, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Facilitate the identification and repair of defective dash cam devices.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent computer skills

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with dash cam monitoring and administering DOT Driver Qualifications.
- Familiarity with OSHA DOT.
- Proficient in telematics systems.
- Experience in compliance and/or safety within the construction, utility or transportation industries.
- An Occupational Safety & Health Degree.
